• Rabies is present on the island so travellers should avoid contact with any local wild animals which may contain the disease. If bitten, travellers should clean the wound and seek immediate aid.
• Malaria is endemic on the island and travellers should take appropriate countermeasures. Visitors should buy plenty of insect repellent and wear clothing that reveals little skin.
• Hepatitis B and E are also present on the island. Visitors are advised to take care when dealing with needles or when involved in sexual activity and to make sure that all required vaccinations have been undertaken prior to flight.
• Overall medical facilities are very basic on all three islands and most are private. Visitors are strongly urged to obtain appropriate health care prior to undertaking their journey. An emergency evacuation maybe required in the event of a serious accident or illness.
